Ohio National - Demutualization

Seemed like it was 15-20% less expensive vs. other major players for the same benefits for most white-collar professions. That couldn't have been a profit center.

Short term profits, not long term. More like short term revenue that they needed to keep afloat. I guess they planned on recouping it somehow in the future... maybe they already had plans to demutualize at that point and just needed a lifeline until that point.
 
Mass is also aggressively going to brokerage. Not just agent appointments, but BGAs with legit contracts where the general agent doesn't have to hose the agent just to get an appointment.

Could be a good thing, could be bad. Most mutual carriers rely heavily on their captive field force to sell their WL.
