What Do You Think of this GA Pitch?

Webstar, she has not called me yet. Have you had your compensation meeting with NYL yet? I did not attend mine though I called the local agent who is recruiting me and asked if they could do it for me. No response back which is surprising. I get the feeling NYL is very strict in their rules and regs.

I have a good pal in TX who has been with NYL for 14 months and is very happy. He went the AFLAC route first and churned and burned so I guess NYL is a step up.

I think I'm getting the blow off from NYL. I requested to take the compensation presentation with the agent/partner instead of driving all the way to another city for a basic one hr group presentation. The recruiter hasnt gotten back as promised nor returned my follow up email.

It's interesting how responsive they are when they want you do take action. I'd be surprised, and disappointed, if this agent did blow me off. We've known each other a few years and I've done more than one favor for her in a professional capacity.

Seems like this thread is dying a neglected life. For anyone who still cares to read about my thrilling journey, I will update.

I attended the NYL comp class and saw how they structure their commission and bonus. With the bonuses it seems appealing, but I still like Guardian better. I intend to solicit myself (poor choice of words?) next week to the remaining two Guardian agents in Miami. I am hoping for some interest in the one office nearby.

I am taking a final meeting tomorrow with the NYL partner. Just in case. At the comp class I met another agent-wanna be who is joining this NYL office. He was very supportive and offered to assist me with anything while getting licensed. Thought that was nice.

And for further knowledge, I met with a Colonial Life "premiere"office to discuss enroller position. Pay ain't great but for someone starting out it might be a good way to learn something and make a few bones while not having to solicit business. There is another Colonial agent looking for an opener and I may speak to her as well.

Just reading the last few posts, and I suspect part of this is you are a woman...

You feel high maintenance. You are also putting the cart before the horse.

If you sell whole life, you'll make money at any big mutual: NYL, Guardian, Mass Mutual, or NWM.

Shut up about the **** compensation. It doesn't matter, they'll pay you and you'll make money. Instead, focus on how you'll make money. How will you find prospects who can afford and see the value in mother mutual's products.

Also, unless teachers in South Florida are paid a whole lot better than here, or you are talking college professors when you say educators, I don't see that being a very viable market. Someone with a 30-40k income, particularly for South Florida isn't necessarily in a position to spend several thousand a year with mother mutual for whole life insurance.

Well....my decision may have been made for me. :/ I just received a very disturbing call from the MP at the Guardian firm. Angry and defensive because I made a request to speak to one of his agents. After our meeting on Monday, his director of recruitment emailed me to say hello and asked me to keep in touch with her while I was getting my licensing training. I replied assuring her I would, and asked if I could speak to one of their producers, specifically one who came from a captive agency (NYL). I wanted to get some of their experiential knowledge at another firm and why they like this firm etc. There are big differences between NYL and Guardian, obviously (Not just the commission structure). My good friend who works for Guardian and referred me to this firm had suggested I speak to one of their producers, so I asked! Well that was a no-no, big time. The MP just lashed at me saying no way he would ask a producer to take a meeting with me to discuss their past experience. ( I asked for a phone call, not meeting). They are very busy, time is critical to them, and especially he wouldn't ask them to speak to "someone who doesnt have their license yet and with whom we have not even made a formal offer to". Yes, he said that. I was shocked. His intense anger was palpable through the phone. He thought it the height of inappropriateness that I asked the recruiter and not him directly. I told him I was responding to her email and had NO idea it would be taken this way. Honestly, I am shocked not so much at his refusal, but at his level of reaction. I told him I was disappointed in his strong reaction and that I felt he was very angry and defensive. He denied it all, said "Nothing here ever makes me angry". Really could have fooled me". Honestly, I don't see how I can work with the man. I am simply stunned.
Run Run very fast and go independent my friend

Wow, Vol Agent....such charm, sir.

Yes, obviously I am a woman. One who is self supporting, making a big career change without being independently wealthy by any means. If performing due diligence to prevent a costly mistake meets your definition of high maintenance, fine. Your opinion of me is none of my business.

Thanks.

I can't say I am surprised by your reaction, disappointed yes, but not surprised.

You were offered valuable constructive criticism and instead you get defensive. This is almost certainly what scared off the Guardian GA.

Like it or not, there are different standards and stereotypes that apply to women. Getting labeled high maintenance does not help you. Yes, you should fight it. But it is far easier to fight it from the inside versus the outside.

Replay your conversations with the Guardian people in your mind. Was it always, "Me, me, me. Money, money, money!!!"

What you seem to be missing is, you will make money at any big mutual if you can sell. The questions to be asking are: how am I going to sell, what are good target markets for your products, what methods do you recommend for prospecting to these markets, etc.

I mean this w/ no disrespect to this exact 'wanna-be' as Superwoman put it but this is absolutely one of the WORST annoying, waste time KILLING things known to mankind.......that is 'talking to' SUPPOSED wanne-could-be-would-like-to-be-AGENTS/SALESPEOPLE.

It's just the worst.....working on, getting STARTED on a SALES gig for nearly 2 months is just nutty (IMO) Vice Presidential candidates can ish or get off the pot quicker than that.

In my experience....a person "with 12 yrs real estate sales and 6 years post-secondary education sales/marketing experience, " generally FOOL THEMSELVES into thinking there is WAY MORE to this thing than there is, as the analysis and research, and rarely make it anyway.

One of the biggest clues to 'maintenance' being an issue as mention by Vol is ...6 years post-secondary education it seems to be that many, many ppl get 'confused' by what this deal is b/c classes and licenses and state certifications are involved.

Many former r/e and too many 'agents' let that 'education' jazz fool them into thinking their teachers or engineers or some other profession where ppl are PAID to show b/c they have pieces of paper and letters behind their names.

Dude/chick it AIN'T THAT serious.....it doesn't take 10 meetings a forensic accounting of comp plans or amens from 50 ppl w/ past experience w/ THAT or this office.

I mean once, one has clearly determined that they aren't dealing w/ a total scam...it's PUT UP or SHUT UP time.

It's like should I get a Honda or a Toyota or a Lexus, two doors, 4 doors, truck, red, white, blue after 6 or 7 weeks it's like PICK ONE already.... NONE of them will DRIVE, THEMSELVES but they ALL will get you there if YOU DRIVE!

Anyway that's just been my experience....doers, do, hem-hawers, hem 'n haw, as long as you let 'em and even the ones that FINALLY get started want like the toilet paper or the bottled water company or 'something' will BECOME the issue that lead to their demise.

The only way to box in to get into the ring, you can always change promoters, venues, gloves or water bottles but c'mon how much time. effort and attention is there WASTE choosing between the MGM Grand or Caesars Palace, they both 'can' host the bout but YOU gotta get in there and START swinging and quit wasting time trying to choose who has the best buffet, casino chairs and dancing girls.
