NFL72 - Off Topic - Car Sales

Records are meant to be broken!

This "alleged" one took long enough though! 1973?

If you haven't sold cars, then you may not be able to appreciate what a record that was!

Both Joe Girard's record and this gentleman's record are astounding. In each case the salesman sold more than 100 cars per month. The average new car salesman in the US sells between 8 to 12 cars per month and makes around $45k to $50k per year. At my dealership, the bonus structure was such that at 20 cars/month a salesman would earn a minimum of $150K + manufacturer spins.

In either case, a single salesman or saleswoman selling over 1000 cars retail in a year will always be a very, very rare feat. Each of these men built an organization within the dealership. Each had assistants that he paid out of his earnings to do the massive amount of non-sales activity required of a car salesman. That does not minimize their accomplishments in any way. It is a rare individual who will be willing to do what it takes to sell the volume those two men sold.

Some work harder, and some work smarter. These two gentlemen worked smarter and harder!

Oh, I get it, that is insane production. The fact he has built a team should take nothing away from it.

There are roughly 250 working days in a year, assuming a 5 day work week and only 2 weeks vacation a year. The number is lower if you take into account holidays. Now he may work 6 days a week, so that would add to the number.

But just assuming 250 working days, that means he averages 5 deals a day. That is beyond impressive. As the article says, that is more than many dealerships.
