Thoughts on Cross-Selling?

For us it's the opposite!

Wifey and I started to get contracted with health companies last year. Between the yearly carrier training requirements, the time it takes to find the right product for the client, the paperwork involved, and all the legal mumbo jumbo, it just wasn't at all cost effective!

For a lot of agents, your presumption is correct! I would imagine that selling different products can help cut lead costs and could actually be profitable.

I was referring more to the income ceiling that comes with FE. The very best in FE sales are usually between $300,000-$500,000. A great living, but on the low side of income compared to other products in the industry.

Yes. Almost everyone else is making $300,000+ in the insurance industry. I don't know what you low achievers were thinking.

I Believe JD says it best.... Successful FE agents stick with FE and nothing else. Agentguy5 also is correct... Too much compliance and training that takes away from selling your Bread winner.

What I have found that works is the Agency Approach... Where the agency cross sells the clients..... EX... FE agent brings in the client and our MedSupp/MA specialist Cals them up for the Cross Sell and splits with the FE agent on Sales..... Each Specialist uses the other for cross selling an new leads. P&C work best with FE for back and forth referrals.

Works also for Health, LTC, CI, Cancer, Wealth Management/Transfer/Annuity all of our lines at my agency. Everyone is a specialist and why detract from what you know and do best... Basically, all of the Agency Clients are prospects for each line of business the Agency Sells.

So if you are not engaged with an agency it might be a good idea for an FE agent to perhaps offer a couple of products but maybe smarter to build an alliance with a specialist for referral work with such thing as medsupps when found and / or medadvantage? sounds legit to me.

Best move of all is for that specialist to be your wife to keep it all in the family.

The average highbrow agent is just as broke as the average FE agent. The exceptional highbrow agent can make more than a FE agent can, sure, but for some people (me) It's more about lifestyle than money. You couldn't PAY me enough to spend my life kissing up to trust fund aholes at the country club. I'd rather go sell a bunch of small policies to broke people and go play golf without having to impress some *** that never worked for his money or some 75 year old that was a superstar in the 70s and hasnt done anything since.
