But UT thinks they are a player. Why wouldn't they talk to those guys? Or maybe they did?

Not sure about Marshall, but I think Smart wants to go somewhere that he won't be under much pressure. Texas being a football school would fit that bill. He was never offered the Illinois job(after Whiney Weber got canned), but when approached he wasn't interested. His was the top name being thrown around.

Texas seems to have it all in place, with the exception of tradition. Lacking tradition is going to make it tough long-term.

Barnes is a decent coach that did a little with a lot at Texas. But, he did take Texas to the FF once so that means he is a better hire for UT than tubby was for UK.

That's not bragging on him a lot but he has shown that he can win basketball games at a football school.

Why UT was looking to hire a guy that was just fired when Shaka Smart and Greg Marshall are out there is kinda dumb but it is UT.

I was hoping they would go after tubby. Rumors were they were going to try and get Pearl back. Barnes is a better coach than Tyndall so it's a move up.

It is official.. Rick Barnes... $2.5 million per yr for 6 years.. plus a possible $700K in bonus money each yr. Reckon that will buy us a .500 season?

You can have Barnes. Good riddance. He's like the Texas Longhorns football team. Great at attracting talent but bad at coaching them up.

He had a decent basketball team this year but his coaching didn't do us any favors.
