The Return of 48 Hour SOA

The e Scope that I have been using has a place for the plan name to be discussed. I've been getting Dr and meds done along with a my medicare.gov account and then setting the e Scope up.

I should share that I am in 21 states and via phone only as well.
The main purpose of the scope is for the customer to decide what TYPE of plans they want to go over in the appointment. It does not need to know the plan name.. I'm not sure how the customer would know what plan name they want to discuss if they know nothing about it yet.

I guess diffrent processes. My clients depend on me deciding for them based off their needs what plan(s) would best work for them. I present one option after all needed info is collected.

The difference is doing the work up-front vs doing it during the actual appointment.
Both involve the same amount of work, if you're a diligent and ethical agent. However, the 48 hr rule may create more tension for the agent, who will have to do their "look-ups" during the actual appointment, when the prospect has a myriad of meds and specialists to consider (think MAPD).

This is a silly rule. It would be better to gather this information up-front, allowing the agent to do his research rather than doing it all during the actual appointment time. This is where the carriers should accept a generic SOA, and correct me if I'm wrong, any scope from any carrier including generics are now acceptable. Unless they're also going to F with this detail also.

It amuses me that the SOA, though it basically hasn't changed throughout the years, still is "updated" with current year or most recent year. And many if not all, also include Med Supps? In fact, this whole thing is ridiculous and laughable. It seems "they" are now making changes for the sake of justifying their existence, and confirming the collective infinite wisdom that all government agencies posses. Glad they backed off on the recording rule, WTF was that all about?

I wonder if there will ever be a "check" on how much the special interest lobbying groups, i.e. the paper mfgs/ printing, software (IT in general) and legal parasites who control just about everything, have over these brainless regulations.

That's what the government is all about. Passing silly laws we don't need to justify their full-time high paying jobs.

The lobbying groups are there to pay the politicians under the table to pass the silly laws we don't need.

The foreign aid is just a form of money laundering the aid back into the politicians pockets.

I hate politicians. Most of them need to be publicly hung.

Agreed!! Most politicians--regardless of stripes, have turned into well-paid, pampered whores, are also seducing and corrupting the masses with the same human appeal to greed, and free creature comforts. Many have taken the bait!

I am not an agent so I don't know whether the SOA forms originate with an agent's carriers or an agent's FMO's.

It is my (non-agent) understanding that many FMO's strongly encourage their agents to use the SOA as a cross selling tool to maximize the number of products an agent will be able to discuss and sell during the sales interview (and by unspoken extension, the amount of commission the FMO will derive from their downline agent's appointment).

I think this could account for the presence of Medigap on the SOA even though the SOA is not required for Medigap sales. It gives a skilled Medicare market agent on an appointment to discuss Medicare health insurance coverage a tool to evaluate a prospect's interest and need for other health related insurance products (such as dental, hospital insurance, cancer, home health care and ? ) which might be presented after the primary sale of Medigap, or MA (MA, MAPD, or MSA), or Cost Plan is completed.

I'd never check the 3rd box. PDP and MA because we have to, anything else is none of their business.

Look at LD including my Cost Plan in his post. On the SOA I use Medicare Advantage and Cost Plan are the same box. Lists them both on one line.

Not sure where you got this info but in my experience tracking has little to nothing to do with it, otherwise there would be requirements to fill it out a certain way. All of my sales are done via phone. My FMO gave little instruction as I didn't really need it. Never specified that there was a "Special" way to complete. MA, MAPD or PD are the only boxes to check however I never check all three. Any other products as noted by the other poster is non of the Fed Gov Business.
